چکیده

The coupled mode theory (CMT) is used to analyze uniform Fiber Bragg gratings. The multi-mode CMT is expressed as the first-order vector ordinary differential equations (ODEs) with coefficients depending on the propagation distance. We show in this paper that by changing variables, the original couple mode equations (CMEs) can be re-casted as constant coefficient ODEs. The eigenvalue and eigenvector technique (EVVT), the analytic method for solving constant coefficient ODEs, is then applied to solve the coupled mode equations. Furthermore, we also investigate the application of RungeKutta method (RKM) to the calculation of the global transfer-function matrix for CMEs. We compare the transmission and the reflection Corresponding author: H.-W. Chang ([email protected]).

Numerical Analysis of Apodized Fiber Bragg Gratings Using Coupled Mode Theory

In this paper, the coupled mode theory is used to analyze apodized fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs). Since the profile of gratings varies with the propagation distance, the coupled mode equations (CMEs) of apodized FBGs are solved by the fourth-order Runge-Kutta method (RKM) and piecewise-uniform approach (PUA). We present two discretization techniques of PUA to analyze the apodization profile of gr...

Optimization of Bistability in Nonlinear Chalcogenide Fiber Bragg Grating for All Optical Switch and Memory Applications

We solve the coupled mode equations governing the chalcogenide nonlinear fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs) numerically, and obtain the bistability characteristics. The characteristics of the chalcogenide nonlinear FBGs such as: switching threshold intensity, bistability interval and on-off switching ratio are studied. The effects of FBG length and its third order nonlinear refractive index on FBG cha...

Cladding-mode-assisted recouplings in concatenated long-period and fiber Bragg gratings.

We investigate new types of mode recouplings in a concatenated grating structure comprising a long-period grating and a fiber Bragg grating. It is demonstrated that the light coupled out to the cladding mode by one of these gratings can be recoupled back to the guided mode by the other grating. Theoretical analysis based on the coupled-mode theory is presented, together with experimental results.

Dispersion and Peak Reflectivity Analysis in a Non-uniform Fbg Based Sensors Due to an Arbitrary Refractive Index Profile

This paper deals with a group velocity dispersion issue and a peak reflectivity issue in a non-uniform fiber Bragg gratings (FBG) due to an arbitrary refractive index profile along the length of grating. The paper shows that by using more complicated refractive index profile one can significantly reduce the group velocity dispersion and side lobes intensity and that in main lobe the bandwidth o...

Nonlinear Fiber Bragg Gratings

In this paper we review some of the dominant topics in fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs). The combination of theory and simulations shows that these structures can use in filters, nonlinear fiber optical applications, soliton propagations etc. We discussed the theory of FBGs, grating solitons, Bragg soliton generation in intrinsic media and birefringence effects in FBGs together with some numerical s...
